As far as I know, there is no other way to transfer music between a PC and an iPod... unless you do some hacking to make your iPod behave like a USB drive...

If it works fine for you then stick with it. There are hacks and ways around it but nothing will sync and organise your Apple products as seamlessly as iTunes.

Sharepod: http://www.getsharepod.com/Quote: SharePod is easy to use and works! Heres some of the main features: Add & remove music and videos from your iPod Add, remove and edit playlists Add & remove album art View and backup photos Copy music, videos and playlists from your iPod to PC Import music/videos into your iTunes library, including playlists and ratings Tag editing Drag n' drop to and from Explorer Simple, clean interface Quick to load and use with no unnessary complicated features Support for iPhone and iTouch (Thanks to Nikias Bassen, Paul Sladen, Jonathan Beck, and Christophe Fergeau for making this possible) And whats more, SharePod is completely free! SharePod was designed from the start to be lightweight, quick and responsive, it has all (well hopefully most...!) of the features you need and none of the features you dont.

I need help. I have done everything - and more - that it says on the Apple site - but to no avail. I have been using iTunes to move music onto my Ipod Nano (5th gen). This is what it says: Quote: An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect and try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes and reinstall iTunes again I have done the uninstall - restart - reinstall etc. I have run MSCONFIG and did a selective Startup. The moment you open iTunes - you get the same error. If I don't have iTunes installed - My Computer can see the device. With it loaded - it cannot see it. I have read one Google suggestion after another. Anyone have a solution that will work? Yes - I could go and connect to my laptop but I want to know why it won't connect to my PC.

I use a small program called SharePod. Works perfectly to transfer music to and from your iPod (best of all, you don't have to Nuke your IPod when your PC crashes and you have to re sync your Library with Itunes) It basically makes your Ipod act like a flash drive, and as far as I know its not hacking in any way…
